- Ok all this discussion about 850-1000Kbytes a second has me curious.
- I have always used the WD/SMC supplied drivers written for PC-NFS. The
- BEST I can get in performance is around 250Kbytes a second. I do seem to
- recall that this was higher with more nfsd's on the sever but not
- significantly. This is a lightly loaded E-Net with ONE SS1+ as the server
- and a bunch of PC's as clients. The PC's are using WD/SMC 8013 16 bit
- cards and some of the PC's are 486/50's. And the 486/50's aren't any
- faster than the 386/33's.
-
- Should I be using a Packet Driver? Are they faster? More optimized for
- the application or what? I always assumed that was adding things I really
- didn't need (as we ONLY run PC-NFS) and wouldn't be as fast.
