  13. "The Economist" magazine, issue of Aug 22nd-28th 1992, publishes two
  14. interesting pieces briefly arguing against the current overemphasis on
  15. patents: a leader titled "The harm of patents", and an article titled
  16. "America's patent mania" in the Business section.  The latter is
  17. accompanied by a sidebar titled "Freeware" giving a glittering though
  18. very short look at Cygnus Support's flourishing business.

  20. I believe this material should be saved and hurled into the face of
  21. anybody which, in the future, should attack anti-patent proponents or
  22. arguments as "blue-sky anti-business socialism" or with similar terms
  23. of abuse; "The Economist" can be, and often is, accused of many things
  24. (check the recent huge thread in rec.arts.books, chock full of people
  25. both pro and against it), but hardly of any anti-business sentiment!
