- David,
-
- I appreciate your interest in both the IBM C++ compiler for OS/2 2.0 (not
- yet announced as a product) and the Borland C++ product set for OS/2 2.0.
- Your speculation on any agreements between IBM and Borland to hold back on
- releasing the IBM C++ for OS/2 32-bit product is FALSE. There exists no
- such agreement.
-
- The IBM Toronto development team which produces the very popular C Set/2
- 32-bit compiler for OS/2 2.0, and also is developing the C++ compiler, is
- a competitor of Borland.
-
- The OS/2 operating system group in IBM supports both Borland and the IBM
- development team. We feel this competition is healthy for the industry
- and expect it leads to even greater levels of innovation on the 32-bit
- OS/2 operating system base.
-
- Users should judge these competitive alternatives based on their relative
- merits to decide which best meets their OS/2-based development requirements.
- In addition we are working with many other vendors who will be releasing
- 32-bit C++ compilers for OS/2 2.0. Some, such as Zortech and JPI (now part
- of Clarion), have already announced their intentions to do so.
-
- I hope that you agree that have multiple, superior development tools and
- applications available on an OS/2 2.0 platform is to your advantage.
-
- Regards,
-
