- You can usually "force" a reduction in the size of the
- swapfile after closing
- apps down by clicking MB2 on the desktop and choosing
- Refresh. (You may
- need to do this a couple of times). The DINFO package
- available from
- software.watson.ibm.com and Hobbes (pub/os2/2.0/sysutils) is
- quite useful if
- you want to see (and hear !) the swap file shrinking and
- growing.
-
- As an extra bonus for me, installing and using this package
- resulted in my
- "fixed size" swap file actually starting to grow at last (A
- problem I had
- with the new kernel - "Out of memory" errors).
-
- As regards the swap file not shrinking back to its' original
- size, this is
- quite sensible if you think about it - you obviously needed
- more swap space
- than 2 Meg (which takes time to create) so the file doesn't
- go back down that
- far - it would only need to recreate it again sooner or
- later.
