- I was just experimenting with some things on OS/2 today. During the process
- of doing so, I think I might have corrupted some extended attributes for
- something because the system would freeze after i conduct 1 or 2 commands
- just after loading up OS/2. I had to cold boot the whole system and kill
- the applications one by one from the task list (had to cold boot after
- each kill because the system would just freeze again) After couple boots,
- i was able to kill all the applications make the desktop look like it should.
-
- So i ran a chkdsk of the drive containing os2 and discovered that some
- of the extended attributes were unlinked (i think that's the term).
- I used chkdsk /f (took me a while to figure out how to do it w/o os2 spitting
- an error message at me) and converted all those lost clusters to files, which
- i in turn deleted. i did try to take a look at the files, but they were
- not text files, so i didn't discover anything too informative.
-
- My question is, assuming that these lost clusters of extended attributes
- were not linked to anything too important which may prevent the starting
- up of OS/2, would OS/2 just rebuild the extended attributes? Or should
- I reinstall OS/2 just to make sure that everything that should be thre
- is there?
-
- I am using the FAT setup (convenience purposes).
-
- note: after all this has occurred i undid my experiments and returned
- os2 to the way it originally was (minus those lost extended
- attributes) and everything *looked* fine when I started up
- the operating system. i haven't gone through everything to see
- if everything still works, but i wanted net advice on this
- subject.
-
- PLEASE RESPOND!!!!
