- The SDK Hardware Compatibility List mentions 8 brands of CD-ROM drives.
- But will other brands also work? For example, Mitsumi? I noticed a
- Mitsumi drive for $259 in a Fry's ad. It says it comes with interface
- board and driver software. I assume the driver software is for DOS.
- Does NT have driver software for the CD-ROM drives mentioned in the
- hardware compatibility list? Does it have one driver for each of those?
- Does that mean the Mitsumi won't work, unless one of those drivers happens
- to be compatible with it?
-
- Which of those 8 brands is the best, fastest, most cost effective, etc.?
- I noticed the CD Technology coupon mentions 325 ms access time, but I
- also noticed some other brand somewhere mentioned 280 ms access time,
- and 300 KB/s transfer rate. Is that 300 KBytes or Kbits? What is the
- transfer rate of the CD Technology drive? I noticed the slowest drives
- seem to be 150 KB/s.
-
- The CD Technology coupon mentions an adapter for $100, and a parallel
- port adapter for $120. Will both of those work with the SDK? Are
- they SCSI or what? Are there any problems using the parallel port?
- They say allow 2-4 weeks for delivery. Does it really take that long?
- If I just go buy a CD-ROM drive somewhere in the SF Bay area, where is
- the best place to buy one?
