- Howdy netters,
-
- Tired of handling "stack + data > 64k" errors, and not willing to try
- a non-Microsoft `C' compiler, we are anxiously looking forward for
- Windows NT and a 32-bit Microsoft compiler. Meanwhile we would like
- to prepare ourselves for the new technology. I would appreciate it
- if someone could suggest us a good networking solution which will pass
- the NT standards.
-
- Our setup is as follows:
-
- Machine 1:
- 486 with Western Digital's \
- 7000-FASST2 SCSI controller \ ~6 m.
- | \
- | ~7 m. Apple LaserWriter+
- ~5 m. |
- Machine 2: -------- Machine 3:
- 486 with EISA board Same as MC 1:
-
- MC1 is connected to the printer through AppleTalk network.
-
- All the three machines should share the harddisks. Its not important if
- the printer can be shared, though it is desirable. Also, we would like
- to keep in touch with the outside world through ethernet which runs
- across our campus.
-
- We are thinking of buying 3 ethernet cards. The problem I think is
- what kind of NFS (or whatever NT jargon) software do we need to buy
- keeping in mind
-
- 1. We cannot afford to use any of the PCs as a dedicated server.
- 2. The network should be totally compatible with NT
-
- Any suggestions?
- Any recommendations on the ethernet card?
- Is there a better solution than having ethernet cards?
-
- Thank you for your help. If need be, I'll summarize the responses on
- the net.
