- With the help of a local computer dealer, I have determined
- that the problem of Linux hanging when dealing with the Adaptec
- 1542B SCSI controller only occurs when the Adaptec BIOS is disabled.
- Turning the Adaptec BIOS on solves the problem.
-
- Evidently, the Adaptec BIOS is doing some sort of initialization
- that the Linux driver needs. At some point, I'll probably look into
- what the Linux driver needs to do to exist without the Adaptec BIOS;
- however, in the mean time, it's nice to have my CDROM working under
- Linux.
-
- Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous posts with
- information about their system configurations or other useful hints,
- and, of course, thanks to everyone who has contributed to making
- Linux such a useful system.
