- While I think Matthew Lewis's first post was in extremely bad taste, I
- do wish the knowledgeable people here would keep their shirts on. Calling
- someone a stupid jabberer won't make him any smarter.
-
- I think there are two main groups of Linux users now; let's call them
- Unix people and DOS people.
-
- Unix people don't want to LEARN Unix; they already know it; they just
- want a cheap Unix machine at home.
-
- On the other hand, the primary reason for DOS people to look into Linux
- must be that they want to learn things. It's not as if there were thousands
- of neat applications they could only run under Linux.
-
- Because they want to learn, they ask dumb questions and whine about
- README's and INSTALL's. They want to understand things. It's not enough
- to run a script; they want to understand what the script does, and why.
-
- My suggestion to Unix people is: the next time you see an insufferable
- DOS idiot here who obviously hasn't done what a README file clearly says
- that should be done, or who has done that, but still can't make it work
- - just don't answer him or her. She or he will go away after a while.
-
- Of course, that way you lose someone who, after a while, might solve
- your TCP/IP/XWindows/SLIP/Ethernet/ESDI/UUCP/SCSI/CDROM/QIC problem...:-)
