- I'm now getting my Novell network up and running, and, as my PC is also my
- master workstation, I have this nice, shiny, new _fast_ 3Com 3C509-TP
- EtherLinkIII NIC (well, it's no EtherExpress32, but it ain't a serial port;-)
- sitting there, waiting for a use under Linux. (I can hear it now, calling
- "Puh-leeze, can I work under Linux? Uh-uh-uh-puh-lee-ee-ee-ze?" :-)
-
- Anyhow, my question is this:
- 1) Is there a driver in the works for this card? (It's supposedly
- brand new, and quite a bit cheaper than the 3C503's) I'd be
- glad to write one, if I had the _faintest_ idea how...
- 2) Once said driver is written, would there be any way for my users
- on the NetWare to connect to my Linux box over it, using, say
- the Clarkson/NCSA Telnet utilities? (I know it can be done once
- the TCP/IP support for Linux is fully in place; what I really
- want to know is, can I have more than one user log in through
- the single card? The book says it is "parallel tasking", but
- I'm not sure what they mean by that.)
- OK, so that was two questions.
- I would be more than happy to help someone write the drivers for the 3C509 and
- test them, as I'm going to have a bunch of 'em real soon now (I have a handful
- at this time, to make certain they'll work in my network).
-
- This looks like it's a fairly specialized interest, so replies by Email
- would be better. If you're working on Linux drivers for the 3C509, let me
- know, at any rate, so I can put it in the Project Registry.
-
- Thanks,
- James
