  14. Alright, color me vaguely confused, but:
  15.  
  16. I installed gcc2.2.2d the other day, even going so far as to
  17. read the readme and the faq.  Neither of them were particularly
  18. informational, but I ended up getting it together, putting the
  19. right files in /usr/install/gcc2, failing to rename them, and
  20. executing the script.  
  21.  
  22. But now a bunch of programs fail to compile, most notably
  23. including xcomm -- because of the 'setjmp programs won't
  24. work' problem noted in this file and the gcc files.
  25.  
  26. My questions:
  27.  
  28. 1) when will they?  I recently accidentally annihilated my
  29. copy of xcomm, and now I'm relegated to using kermit until I
  30. fall back to a previous version of gcc or until the problem
  31. gets fixed.  Since falling back is considerable effort and
  32. time, I wanna get an estimate.
  33.  
  34. 2) why won't they?  I vaguely remember ol' H.J. filling half
  35. my screen with a bunch of repeated warnings and admonitions
  36. to read the faq, but he never got around to any sort of
  37. explanations, not even in the faq.

  39. Lest anyone miscomprehend (or worse, say 'read the faq' again),
  40. I'm perfectly willing to rewrite any install document or FAQ
  41. handed to me in pure, simple English, and in fact offer to do
  42. so for the next gcc release.
