- Maybe in a "DOS user's guide to using the Linux system". This is really
- just a newbie question and we shouldn't punish experienced Unix and
- Linux users with such stuff by putting it in a regular Linux FAQ. There
- are plenty of published guides for new users, but there is no law against
- making a free one. Just be sure it stays separate from the regular Linux
- stuff so we experienced users can ignore it. :-)
-
- Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to discourage DOS users from switching
- to Linux. It's just that some of us are experienced users and get
- irritated with what we think are "stupid" questions. A classic example
- is "How do I remove a file?" Really, there are other newsgroups that
- have that purpose.
-
- I can see that we need a DOS-to-Linux mailing list channel or a
- DOS-to-Linux guru for the new breed of Linux user that we are increasingly
- seeing. Between having a DOS-to-Linux guru, mailing list channel, and
- seperate FAQ, we should be able to satisfy the majority of Linux users.
- Previous postings from newbies have resulted in long, dragged out threads
- on splitting the newsgroup. I think we CAN keep this newsgroup together
- if we DO SOMETHING about the newbie problem, because it's only going
- to get worse if we don't.
-
- Comments? Suggestions?
