- Well, for the 3B1 just snag the FAQ from comp.sys.3b1. There's still an
- active user community, and rather a large number of 3B1's with net
- connections (picarefy.com used to be a 3B1 until I got a Sun 3/60).

-
- Well, here's two:
-
- PC/IX (Personal Computer Interactive Executive)
- Based on: SysIII
- Ported by: Interactive Systems Corp.
- Marketed by: IBM
- Known versions: 1.0, 1.1 (released to support the PC/AT)
- Timeframe: 1984
- Minimum system: PC/XT, 256K, 10M HD
- Remarks: Finicky about hardware -- does not like RLL disks, extended
- keyboards, or almost anything else modern. I could only get it running
- when I got ahold of an all-original PC/XT. Supports tiny and small memory
- models only. Manuals written with a sense of humor ("...discovering that
- the new kernel has just swapped over a user file system can be
- disappointing."). Does NOT include vi or dozens of other familiar
- utilities (e.g., I had to write my own version of "clear" for it).
- Compiler has only partial support for "void" type and only the first
- seven or eight characters of identifiers are significant (argh!).
- Drops characters when uucp'ing at 9600 baud; 4800 is mostly reliable,
- with only occasional dropouts.
-
- IN/ix
- Based on: SysV
- Ported by: Interactive Systems Corp.
- Marketed by: Media Software & Systems Inc.
- Known versions: 1.0
- Timeframe: 1987
- Minimum system: PC/XT, 512K, 10M HD
- Remarks: May not ever have been released for sale. Includes lots of office
- automation software. The only manual included with the floppies is about
- this office software. MSS is gone and don't bother asking Interactive
- for any of the other manuals. Includes vi, csh; missing other familiar
- utilities. Inspection of /etc/magic indicates that it supports tiny
- and small memory models, and possibly allows overlays. Compiler supports
- long identifiers.
