  25. A story from my youth:

  27. My first year out of college I was teaching at the Home Town Junior
  28. College.  I still didn't have the MS, so I wasn't doing the Calculus,
  29. but I was doing the Calculus based Physics.

  31. There was a girl taking the Calculus and also taking Physics from me
  32. who was president of the church youth group I participated in.  One day
  33. she and another girl stayed after the physics class and she asked me if
  34. I could help her with a calculus problem.  Of course!

  36. She showed me an exercise in the text and, after I had read it, I
  37. walked up to the chalkboard and proved the thing it asked for a proof
  38. of.  The two of them were furiously writing.

  40. It took me years to understand the following conversation:

  42. she "Do you have all these things memorized?"

  44. me "No, I never saw that before.  I just proved it for you."
  45.  
  46. I don't think either of us understood what the other was saying, but I
  47. think I do now.
