  12. We have recently purchased a cisco IGS Bridge/Router.  Currently it is
  13. configured as a transparent bridge (ethernet - ethernet).  IP Routing has
  14. been turned off.

  16. We are trying to determine the bridge's effectiveness and I need some help
  17. interpreting the output of the 'show bridge' command.

  19. In particular, what do the two fields 'RX count' and 'TX count' mean?

  21. The manual states (page 20-31):
  22.   RX count     Displays count of the number of frames received from that
  23.                address.
  24.  
  25.   TX count     Displays count the number of frames sent to that address.

  28. Does 'RX count' display *all* packets received from an address, or only
  29. those forwarded through the bridge?  If it indicates all packets received,
  30. how many were forwarded, and how many were not?  If only those forwarded,
  31. is it possible to determine the total number of packets received from an
  32. address?

  34. 'TX count' seems pretty straight-forward.

  37. Any replies would be helpful, as well as any suggestions as to key bridge
  38. parameters to watch.  (We're very new at this)
