- I am using a pair of them (one at work, one at home). For reasons too
- sick to go into here (but having nothing to do with the modems
- themselves), I've not tried the V.fast mode. However, they do all the
- normal modulations up to V.32bis with several error correction/data
- compression protocols including MNP4&5 and V.42 and V.42bis. One of the
- nice things about this modem is that you can lock the DTE rate at up to
- 115.2K bits/sec (useful only with very compressable data, of course).
- On my 386 running UNIX, I have it locked at 57.6K (highest rate the FAS
- I'm running supports).
-
- Note: the folks we ordered from wanted us to be impressed with these
- modems, and very strongly urged us to get them in pairs. I very
- strongly make the same reccommendation. Once you get 'em set up right
- (not any tougher than setting up the USR V.32bis), you'll be very
- impressed, I believe.
-
- Bottom line: a very nice (but expensive) V.32bis/V.42bis modem with a
- few bells & whistles I haven't seen collected in a single modem before.
- Best whistle: the ability to push ~3000 bytes/sec to another 326XFAST
- with *NO* compression (currently incompatible with any other modem).
-
- ] That Motorola Codex modem 28.8K is proprietary. The real V.Fast 28.8 won't
- ] be finalized until the end of '93, then will be formally adopted early
- ] 1994. Therefore, when the standard comes out, the Codex will not be able
- ] to connect to it at 28.8K...
- ] USRobotics Courier V.32bis/Dual Standard lines will be upgradeable to
- ] V.Fast when it comes out for $300.
-
- And the folks at Motorola Codex claim that their 326XFAST modems will
- also be upgradable to full V.fast when it is approved by the CCITT.

- Disclaimer: I am not paid by Motorola Codex, but I like their 326XFAST
- modems very much. 'Nuff said?
