- Several users on our campus have finally received their Gateway 2000
- TelePath modems and I thought I'd share what problems we've encountered
- for those considering their purchase.
-
- The modem does not pass a serial BREAK signal regardless of what S82 is
- set to (3,7, or 128) or what n value is used with AT\Kn (AT\K5 should
- send a BREAK in sequence with any transmitted data.) Fortunately, it
- is possible to use +++ AT\B ATO to send a break, but this is SLOW and
- results in the +++ also being transmitted to the remote application.
-
- MS-Kermit 3.11 and 3.12 don't get along at all with this modem. They
- hang on any attempt to connect to the modem above 19kbps. I've gotten
- version 2.32/A to talk fine at 2400, 19,200, 38k and 57kbps, but if I
- run an external comm program such as DSZ, Kermit will lock up when I
- next try to connect. Neither Gateway's tech. support, nor the Kermit
- people have a solution at this time. Joe Doupnik (author of Kermit)
- tells me he has not been able to get the necessary info. to fix the
- problem from Gateway, or the Co. that makes the modem for them.
