- Telebit Worldblazer uses TIES (no gurad time, threee char escape).
- If you leave the default plus sign, and happen to type three pluses
- in a row (such as paging around in elm), and the next thing you
- type is not AT... the modem says RECONNECT and goes on about its
- business as if nothing had happened. If you have ATQ0 set, then
- you don't even get the RECONNECT string, so there'd be no problem
- at all transferring text or binary files.
-
- Only a ridiculously contrived situation such as a news article
- describing the problem with pluses and ATs embedded would be a
- problem.
-
- I have a beef with Hayes of not including a decent manual with
- their V series modems. The leaflet that passes for a reference
- manual is ridiculous. I recently had to help a customer set up
- some software to dial into my site; they'd bought V series modems
- several several months ago. I called Hayes in attempt to obtain
- the real manual that should have come with the modem. Hayes was
- adamant about not sending me the manual because the customer had
- already sent in the warranty cards, but had not sent in the manual
- request card. I'm all in favor of saving paper and hence our
- planet by not including manuals in the box for low-tech customers that
- only run totally canned software, but heck let's have a little
- flexability in satisfying paying customers.
-
- Hayes blew the opportunity to sell me several hundred more V series
- modems thanks to their lousy support policy. The sale has gone
- instead to DSI which has quite pleasant and helpful support. It is
- a coincidence, but DSI modems work for us out-of-the-box anyway.
- Hayes have a technically better modem and PADS capabilty, but that
- matters little when you've got to get the darn thing configured for
- an impatient customer.
