- I use an 8250 UART with a Scout+ just to see how it works. I dont get
- many errors at all, but can use only 38,400 baud as the highest DTE
- speed. Most important, though, is that all the toggles in Qmodem 4.31
- are set correctly. 'DTE when writing' must be set to OFF, otherwise I
- experience overrun errors whenever data gets written to disk. 'Hi-speed
- transmit' must be set ON, etc. In general I find a setup with a 8250
- requires more fine-tuning, in particular at speeds of 38,400 or
- 57,600 baud DTE. If you still get errors after checking your settings,
- I recommend to install a 16550AFN UART on your serial port.
-
- With a 16550AFN 16 byte buffer and a 57,600 baud DTE rate I can set the
- toggles in the wrong positions and still dont get errors. Its more fault
- tolerant, including operator error.
