- I would assume that most workstation vendors can sell you an emulation
- package, maybe with hardware if the standard ports can only support
- asynch. Only one I *know* of is Sun. They have a package called SunNet
- (Sunlink?) BSC RJE. Supports 2780, 3780, and HASP.

-
- I believe you need some clarifications. The distinction for a modem
- is not asynch/bytesynch/bitsynch, as it is for the chips. It is
- interpreted (normally asynch only), and uninterpreted. If you look
- at the description of the S150 register of the T2500, you will see
- that it can support a "Transparent Synchronous Mode". This is what
- you use for non-SDLC synch protocols on a T2500. (SDLC is the lowest
- level protocol in SNA. For a modem it is the equivalent of, say,
- XModem or the uucp 'g' protocol.)
-
- I'm not sure what you mean with "only an RS232 port". Synchronous
- comms lines have been using RS232 for a long time and still are
- for the lower speeds. For higher speeds you see mostly RS-422
- and similar balanced connections (e.g. RS-449).
