- Suggesting that someone without a lot of desoldering experience remove
- a 40 pin DIP from a multilayer board using the RS desoldering tool, as
- charles@gremlin.muug.mb.ca suggests, is an almost criminal act ;-}!
- On the other hand, his suggestion to just get the drivers and the
- cable for the second port is really a good suggestion.

- If you don't have the option of using a socket, the 'cut the pins with
- a diagonal cutter and solder the new chip to the pin stubs' suggested
- by Russ Nelson is a downright crude approach, but it is also quite
- likely to work. I know from experience.

- I've done it both ways, although not with a 16650, and damaged boards
- with the first technique, but not with the second. As a minor addition
- to Russ' technique, I'd recommend soldering a socket to the pin stubs,
- if you have the room, rather than directly soldering the 16550.
