- Class 1A will be a relatively straight-forward extension of the
- existing Class 1. Some enhancements will be made to try to
- eliminate the critical timing dependencies in the existing Class 1,
- either by implementing "macro"-like commands (that perform several
- Class 1 operation in a single command) or by allowing existing Class
- 1 commands to be chained together on a single command line. We'll
- add several DTE-DCE interface elements from Class 2, such as
- standard commands for configuring flow control and port rate, the
- packet protocol, etc. But otherwise, it will still retain the
- essential elements of Class 1, which is that the T.30 protocol
- management remains in the DTE software. Class 2 places the T.30
- protocol in the modem firmware, controlled by a plethora of
- parameters.
