- Highest available standard modems are V.32 bis at 14.4k. With V.42 bis
- data compression, this is somewhat higher. Your mileage will vary.

- There is another standard in the works, V.fast which will go to 28.8k
- uncompressed. Some manufacturers have jumped the gun and released their
- flavours of the "standard". No doubt compression will be an option.
