  13.    Most voice samplers operate at a standard sampling rate of 8KHz and
  14. use 8-bit quantization, resulting in 28.8MBytes to store one hour of
  15. speech.
  16.    My company, Analogical Systems, has implemented a 4800 bps CELP
  17. vocoder based upon the Ariel PC-56 DSP card for the PC (this card has
  18. a Motorola DSP56001 on it). The resulting compression ratio is 13.3:1,
  19. requiring only 2.16MBytes to store one hour of speech.
  20.    Demonstration systems (including the Ariel PC-56 board) are
  21. available from Analogical Systems for only $595. The demo systems
  22. have a real-time synthesizer (playback) and non-real-time analyzer
  23. (recorder).
