- A strange thing happened Friday (there is still not NB support at Ohio State).
- A secretary using an old 8088 Zenith with a hard drive is now on a Novell
- Network, connected to a HP II printer without a font cartridge. She had no
- printer installed on her NB, yet usually could, through the network, get files
- to print (in Courier). A Dean(let), who thinks central computers are wonderful
- and that it is wrong to empower individual professors with individual machines
- and software, told her she needed to install a printer on NB in order to print
- properly. (He does not know NB.) So I was called in to install the HP printer
- for her, and to install the Epson FX 85 that is attached at her local site.
-
- Now, when she is in NB\Work, and I try to Designate a printer, none is listed.
- When I switch to C:\NB, however, I can find the Epson printer on her screen and
- selected it as the primary printer. (She had me NOT put on the HP II becasue
- she is happy with her ability over the network to use it.) What has gone awry?
-
- Our secretaries who are used to NB think it is a wonderful program and are very
- upset with the efforts to force everyone to use a much more expensive version
- of network programs that do not seem to do the job as well. But who are they
- to know?
