- Subject: TCP/IP V2.2 - ESA - LPSERVE Problem
- Lines: 46
-
- I've posted this on various TCP/IP Bitnet Lists with no reply, so I'm also
- trying here. ...
-
- When users try to access a printer via LPR from PC's (CUTCP), UNIX or
- VMS (that VMS, not MVS or multiple VMs), they receive errors indicating
- that the SERVER CONNECTION FAILED.
-
- We run LPSERVE as a TCPIP V2.2 started task on an MVS/ESA system.
-
- MVS users can LPR fine out from our IBM to printers attached to other
- machines (UNIX, VMS or whatever), however, users can't go the opposite route
- INTO the IBM.
-
- A look at our LPSERVE in DEBUG mode shows a:
- FAILED TO OPEN "R1AE0E2A dfA045LU"
- followed by a:
- Terminanting connection 1 Failed to open file
- in the LPSERVE LOG just before the connection to the end-user is closed.
-
- I have turned off RACF in the LPD.CONFIG file. The effect with RACF on is
- the same but also a
- FAILED TO OPEN "R1AE0E2A SITE"
-
- So, the problem appears to have nothing to do with RACF or such.
-
- My UNIX guru says that this failed file appears to be the spool file name on
- the sending system. This can't be since PC's have no spool files.
-
- So, 1) what the fat is this file which is failing to open?
- and, the big question ...
- 2) how do I get IBM LPD to allow LPR's from other TCP/IP sources?
-
- Incidentally, the FOR=user_id and PASS=password options indicated in the
- TCP/IP V2R2 for MVS Planning and Customization manual in the LPSERVE chapter
- under the "Controlling LPSERVE from other Systems" section are not recognized
- on any LPR we have at GMU. We are exceptionally current with our UNIX and
- VMS systems as well as with CUTCP (PC TCP/IP). Did IBM make these "options"
- up hoping to force them on other TCP/IP implementers? They certainly are
- NOT LPD.CONFIG file options. (But, that, Little Adam is another story.)
-
-
- Help, Please.
