  13. Maybe I'm wrong, but your questin seems to be, "Can we replace ListServ
  14. (and VM, maybe) by another List Server on the Internet".

  16. I suppose the answer is Yes, since there are many discussion lists on the
  17. Internet; however, you must check if these have the same possibilities,
  18. or better, if you need some of ListServ's possibilities, namely:

  20. List features:
  21. - Automatic subscription and Un-subscription of members on a list
  22. - Making a list confidential (open only to subscribers)
  23. File features:
  24. - Controlling access to a file someone wants to GET
  25. - Automatic file Distribution when a file has been changed (or sending
  26.   a notice of the change)

  28. (at least, these are the features I'm interested in! so:)

  31. If something on the Internet provides this (P.S. I'd like to know) or
  32. if you don't need it, then OK, go on. Otherwise...

  34. Now (I think) you can drop the Bitnet link and still keep ListServ
  35. operating, but I don't know what will happen to file handling... and to
  36. the distribution of the ListServ code itself...
