- With these HESC contracts, you get one copy of the media, manuals, etc.
- So it is up to the university coordinator to copy/loan out the media, and
- each system to purchase their own manuals via SLSS entries.
-
- The way we set it up was I would receive the material, check it out, and
- notify each party that requested that software was in and they could pick
- it up (very few sites actually do). The notification is done automatically
- via E-mail, using the product number to search out who was actually
- supposed to receive it.
-
- Originally this was simply a lookup as a namelist alias using the
- product number. This retrieved the list of computer sites registered
- for the software, and each of these was in turn an alias list of
- people responsible for each site who wanted to be notified when a
- new shipment came in. I re-wrote this a few years ago using SQL as
- the database.
-
- If you are interested in what I did, I can give you some of the material.
- I do not want to put very much time in as I will be turning off the VM
- system that I used to administer it in a few weeks (converting to Risc/6000s).
