  8. Subject:      How do you manage per-copy orders?

  11. We now belong to several HESC groups, including AIX ones with various
  12. items shippable with per-copy fees. I'm trying to figure out how to
  13. manage orders from individual departments across our campus. As far as I
  14. can tell the following is true:

  16. -- There's no way to specify a "ship to" address as I order something
  17. under HESC. All individual orders will come to me (the lucky HESC
  18. coordinator).

  20. -- All HESC deliveries are undifferentiated. I can't tell whether the
  21. box that just arrived was shipped due to order "A" or order "B".

  23. If both of these are true, I can't picture how to manage this. I'll get
  24. a flow of orders from departments, and a flow of boxes, but no way to
  25. tie the two together. I could set up an inventory database showing "I
  26. owe unit X 3 copies of product 1234-5678" but things get split into
  27. multiple shipments (manuals separate for instance) so this could get
  28. complicated. If I could have an "ATTN:" field on the mailing label it'd
  29. be so much easier.

  31. I understand that a big part of HESC is the central point of contact on
  32. a campus. That's a lot easier to deal with when we're talking copies of
  33. VM/ESA than when we're talking tools that may go on a bunch of RS/6000.

  35. If someone has a good plan for coping with this please let me know. I
  36. hope I'm missing something obvious. Send me private mail if you'd prefer.
