  19. LIBrary SOFTware archive site.

  23. Welcome to the LIBrary SOFTware Archives of the School of Library and
  24. Information Science at the University of Western Ontario (HYDRA.UWO.CA)

  29. LIBSOFT contains programs of interest to librarians. File descriptions are in
  30. the file INDEX.TXT which you should read before transferring files. This
  31. site does not contain any general software (word processors, databases, etc)
  32. as they are easily obtainable from the archives at simtel or its mirrors
  33. such as wuarchive.wustl.edu. LIBSOFT also has files to help librarians make
  34. use of the Internet.

  36. LIBSOFT also maintains updates to Peter Scott's hypertext database
  37. in the \HYTELNET directory. Changes that occur between releases of
  38. HYTELNET versions are kept as text files with an extension of .TXT
  39.  
  40. Please login as user AMONYMOUS and use your e-mail address as a password. This
  41. is a courtesy to the system manager who tracks these things.

  43. Please do not access this site during local working hours (9-5) as it increases
  44. the load on the machine. Remember, anonymous FTP is a privledge - not a right.
  45. Hydra is located in the EDT.

  47. Text (ASCII) files generally have the extension .TXT and can be transferred with
  48. the GET filename command.
  49.  
  50. All program (binary) files have extensions .ZIP, .EXE or .COM and should have
  51. the transfer type set to binary (TYPE BINARY) before transferring with the
  52. GET filename command. Files with .EXE or .COM are self-extracting archives.
  53. After downloading the file to your PC just type the filename to extract all the
  54. compressed files. .ZIP files require the PKUNZIP program for extraction.

  56. NOTE: WordPerfect files (.wp5) must have the file mode set to binary before
  57. transferring.

  70. public domain or shareware program specifically designed for libraries
  71. and would like to share it with others just drop me a line and I shall
  72. add it to the archives.

  74. Currently the archive is slanted towards MS-DOS. However more Mac files
  75. may be added in the future. Many files are in WordPerfect 5.1 format but
  76. for the convenience of users I will try and provide ASCII versions as well.
