  15. I would never presume to read Rusty's mind (I leave that to his wife and
  16. will send him a personal message making snide remarks), but I think that
  17. when he asked about out-of-hand renewals, he could also have been refer-
  18. ring (and, if he wasn't, I am, in my great Marcel Proust-imitation run-on
  19. sentence) to taking an inventory along and checking off the books against the
  20. inventory rather than bringing the books back to the library and then carrying
  21. them back again.  As a result, the transaction at the checkout terminal
  22. would be out-of-hand, but the books would have been seen by a library
  23. staffer, thereby avoiding the problem you referred to.

  25. I am continually amazed by what staff-intensive things BYU can do.  I know
  26. several people who did their obligatory missionary work...is working in the
  27. library an alternative option?  (Please, no offense intended...I just asked
  28. one of my Mormon friends if that would be and she said no, but she is one of
  29. the funniest people I have EVER met in my life, so perhaps I shouldn't
  30. trust her judgement!! :^)
