- I am looking for the falacious "proof" that 0=1.
- it starts with something like:
-
- a = b
- a*a = a*b
- .
- .
- .
- 0 = 1
-
- I can not remember how the interim steps go, but I
- do remember that the error in the proof is that
- there is a step where both sides are divided by (a-b).
- Since (a-b)=0 this is an impossible step.
-
- I am want to use this "proof" to show my little brother,
- who is taking a first year algebra course, that you must
- ALWAYS check your results after working a problem.
