  12. The below is a repost of a letter I posted about 5-6 days ago.
  13. The response was good.  Several good ideas came out of it.  I am 
  14. reposting to see if I can get a few more.  Thanks to those who 
  15. responded last time.

  18. Good day.

  20. I am an Electrical Engineering student about to enter my last academic term in
  21. university.  This term we can choose all our courses (for specialization)
  22. except for one.  This is why I am writing this letter.

  24. The mandatory course is a project course in which we pick a project and apply
  25.  what we have learned for the last five years.  The projects vary in
  26. complexity and scope.  Generally there are two types of projects: a pure
  27. research paper in which something new etc. is discussed, and one in which a 
  28. prototype of the project is built and tested.  Examples of some projects done 
  29. before are neural network theory, design and building of an 8088 stand-alone 
  30. computer, remote control using MF and HF frequencies, etc.

  32. My problem is that I can't come up with a project.  Can anyone out there 
  33. suggest something?  I am interested in communications, and electronics 
  34. (no power engineering).  I can program in C and assembler (80x86).  I am 
  35. not sure what I want to do, ie. just a report or to come up with a product 
  36. and build it.  Note, the projects are usually original and fill some gap in 
  37. technology.

  39. Here are some of the things that have crossed my mind:
  40. -Sound processing in real time (ie. effects) (digital or analog).
  41. -Voice synthesis add on card for a single board computer (text to speech)
  42. -Some caller id type of application
  43.  
  44. I would like to do something with telephone interfacing/computer ... but 
  45. again, everything I come up with has either been done before, too simple, 
  46. too complex.

  48. Any help / ideas received would be greatly appreciated.
