- The below is a repost of a letter I posted about 5-6 days ago.
- The response was good. Several good ideas came out of it. I am
- reposting to see if I can get a few more. Thanks to those who
- responded last time.

-
- Good day.
-
- I am an Electrical Engineering student about to enter my last academic term in
- university. This term we can choose all our courses (for specialization)
- except for one. This is why I am writing this letter.
-
- The mandatory course is a project course in which we pick a project and apply
- what we have learned for the last five years. The projects vary in
- complexity and scope. Generally there are two types of projects: a pure
- research paper in which something new etc. is discussed, and one in which a
- prototype of the project is built and tested. Examples of some projects done
- before are neural network theory, design and building of an 8088 stand-alone
- computer, remote control using MF and HF frequencies, etc.
-
- My problem is that I can't come up with a project. Can anyone out there
- suggest something? I am interested in communications, and electronics
- (no power engineering). I can program in C and assembler (80x86). I am
- not sure what I want to do, ie. just a report or to come up with a product
- and build it. Note, the projects are usually original and fill some gap in
- technology.
-
- Here are some of the things that have crossed my mind:
- -Sound processing in real time (ie. effects) (digital or analog).
- -Voice synthesis add on card for a single board computer (text to speech)
- -Some caller id type of application
-
- I would like to do something with telephone interfacing/computer ... but
- again, everything I come up with has either been done before, too simple,
- too complex.
-
- Any help / ideas received would be greatly appreciated.
- Sorry for the long letter.
-
- Steve.
