- I had such good luck with my last query about fixing a problem in the
- BSR X-10 system (the "local on" misfeature in the appliance module)
- that I thought I'd try another one.
-
- I have the "telephone response unit". This lets me call up my house
- from any touch-tone phone and control BSR X-10 modules. It works
- nicely, but it has one annoying misfeature: when it answers the line,
- even in "answering machine" mode, it immediately emits three loud
- beeps. Then it waits for a 3-digit security code followed by the
- on/off commands. Then it beeps again.
-
- The initial beeps are highly obnoxious, and it often confuses people
- leaving messages on my answering machine. (This got better when I
- started mentioning it in my outgoing message, but it's still tacky.)
-
- Of course, the unit should beep to acknowledge an actual command
- sequence, but it ought to remain completely silent until then. Has
- anyone any insight into this problem?
-
