- Well, Pete, I believe that the photo in RC! was clear, there were none of
- the "shock-absorbers" on the car suspension systems in the photo, and that
- was the major flaw in The Bat, which was the first prototype suspended
- coaster in the world. The problem was that without those absorbers (they
- should rightly be called dampers) the trains were destroying the structure,
- reportedly striking the support columns on occasion. Many riders that I
- know reported stories of being covered with oil/grease/water coming from
- the overhead stuff, too. You'll notice on today's suspended coasters, they
- all sport some kind of covers over the overhead stuff, and they all have
- many of those shock absorbers (dampeners) on each car. One reason that
- the ride got torn down is that it had a bad reputation for a lot of down
- time, and that can really ruin a ride with the public, so sometimes it's
- just better to start from scratch, and that's apparently what Arrow and
- Kings Island did when they removed The Bat.
- Anyone else out there have more to add?
- happy coasting,
- Tom.
