- Okay, so you can't reduce the risk of your car being stolen to zero. Perhaps
- it's time to take a different tack. How about increasing the risk taken by
- the prospective thief in attempting to steal your car? The risk right now is
- getting a little jail-time, multiplied by the chance of getting caught, and
- that risk seems way too low right now. I think the car owner should increase
- the risk directly.
-
- The details are hazy, but I think I read in this newsgroup about a guy in
- Poland who put a wooden board, with nails hammered through it, on the car seat
- and covered it with a thin cloth. Unfortunately, he was told to desist - I
- can't remember whether he was convicted of anything.
-
- What about less extreme measures, such as rigging the alarm system to release
- some tear gas two seconds after the car starts moving, or spraying the driver
- with paint? The priorities are to:
-
- (1) Not do any permanent damage to the thief
- (2) Not cause any accidents
- (3) Be very safe against accidental triggering
