- My dad got a recall notice concerning his 87 Mercury Cougar (which he
- got about a year ago. My grandmother bought it new, and it has maybe
- 30K miles on it at most right now).
-
- This letter says that there might be a problem with the catalytic
- converter which might cause the car to have higher polution emissions
- than it was originally "allowed" to have when new.
-
- The letter said that he could bring it into the dealer to get a free
- inspection and fix if needed. My advice was that they're just as likely to
- screw something up (scratch a door, create an exhaust leak, etc) so
- I think he should ignore it. Especially since emissions tests aren't
- required here (so like why the recall?).
-
- Does anyone know the real scoop behind this catalytic converter recall
- thing (letter dated Aug.5) ?
