-
- This is an update to this week's hotline about the tidal wave
- that struck Nicaragua on Tuesday Sept. 1. It will followed by
- the hotline recorded Monday.
-
- An undersea earthquake registering over 7 on the richter scale
- caused a tidal wave which struck the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua
- on Tuesday. Early reports from Nicaragua indicate at least 40
- deaths and hundreds missing. The earthquake's epicenter was
- located 75 miles Southwest of Managua the resulting 6 foot tidal
- wave washed away whole fishing villages from San Juan del Sur in
- the South to Poneloya near the Port of Corinto. The Nicaraguan
- government is evacuating the entire Pacific coastline to protect
- the population from aftershocks. If you wish to contribute to
- relief measures for this latest natural disaster you can send
- your tax-deductible contribution to the Nicaragua Network
- Education Fund at 1247 E St., SE, Washington, DC 20003.
- Designate your contribution for tidal wave relief. Quest for
- Peace continues to ship containers to Nicaragua, so if you have
- clothing, medicine, fishing nets, housewares, or other items that
- would help the people of the coast rebuild, call Quest for Peace
- at (301) 699-0042 to find out where the nearest container is to
- your location.
