- At approximately 6:00am this morning an intruder was discovered at the
- Chancellor's campus residence at the University of California at Berkeley.
- A silent alarm was tripped and the woman was found in a second floor
- bathroom, armed with a machete. An Oakland police officer, called in
- through a mutual aid agreement, said that the intruder made a menacing
- move and that he shot her. She later died at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
-
- The intruder was identified as Rosebud Denovo, age 18. Denovo was known
- for her involvement in the People's Park demonstrations in Berkeley in 1991.
- She had been accused by the University of building an arsenal of molotov
- cocktails and other explosives in the Berkeley Hills. UC declared that
- they had evidence of a plot to firebomb construction sites on the UC
- campus, although the case had not yet reached trial. UC did not elaborate
- on the charges at the time.
-
- To my knowledge, as a Berkeley activist and People's Park supporter,
- Denovo acted alone.
