  16. This problem somtimes occurs when you've added more ptys to your
  17. system (via MAKEDEV), but forgot to add them to /etc/ttys.

  19. If you're running X, another possiblity is that, or the user has put:

  21. xterm*utmpInhibit:    true

  23. in his or her Xresource or Xdefaults file.
