  20. We are using a DECstation 3100 with 24MB as our campus news server
  21. (nntp & c-news).   We have 9 sites we exchange news with and have
  22. 16 nntpds now (Sat morning) and typically around 80 during week days
  23. and evenings, peaking well above 100.  It performs pretty good for
  24. reading news although posting can be a little slow during peak times.
  25. IMHO, CPU power is not as important as having fast seeking disks
  26. and enough memory (plenty dedicated to bufcache).  We are considering
  27. going to a 5000/25 (the 3100 is maxed at 24MB, plus the extra CPU
  28. can't hurt).  Not all sites are big enough to justify having a 
  29. dedicated news server, but I think it's a big win if you can do it.
