- Hello,
-
- I'm having an intermittent problem with our color monitor. It's an
- IBM 6091 19, and it's hooked up to an RS6000.
-
- It does two rather unsettling things. Here are the symptoms:
-
- 1) Monitor momentarily brightens. It's as if someone were pressing
- that black button on the control panel for a half second to a second.
- This wierd spell occurs for about 1/2 a minute, then everything goes
- back to normal.
-
- 2) I hear a snap, and notice that one or two adjacent scan lines turn
- black. It seems to last for only the length of time it takes to scan
- one or two lines, in other words, it happens so fast that I can't
- really characterize it any better. It has occurred 2-3 times in one
- day, but usually only 1-2 times a week. (ONLY? It shouldn't happen
- at all!)
-
- Problem 1 is annoying because sometimes I can't tell if there's
- something wrong with my eyes or not. However, since I'm still under
- warranty, I'd rather not wait until something actually burns out to
- figure out what the problem was.
-
- Problem 2 is more of a worry. It seems to be a high-voltage problem.
- IBM service guys just a week ago replaced the Low Voltage supply and
- the Arc Suppression board. They were pretty confident it was now
- fixed. I've noticed that it occurred once in the past six days since
- they replaced things.
-
- The service guys were pretty much at a loss as to what was wrong with
- the monitor. They were pretty good at reading the manual and
- replacing boards, but claimed that the fluorescent lights might have
- something to do with the intermittent intensity problem.
-
- So, does anyone have any tale to relate that might help isolate the
- problem? If your suggestion works, you can send IBM a bill for your
- services. ;-) But seriously, I could use some suggestions.
-
- Thanks a heap,
