  15. This has been a fiasco.
  16.  
  17. I've got the stock 40Mb (actually a 43Mb Conner CP342) IDE drive in
  18. this thing.  I decide that with 720Kb free, and a little spare change
  19. in my pocket, I'd upgrade to the Conner 120Mb IDE (CP30104) for $349.

  21. In preparation, I went ahead and upgradedmy 3.2c ROM BIOS to the
  22. latest and greatest version.  No trouble there.  Drive type 61 is the 
  23. perfect match for the new 120Mb drive.

  25. Now, I get a new drive delivered from Hard Drives International.  It
  26. arrives and is dead.  I send it back, get a replacement, and before
  27. bringing it home, I try it at work, as a single drive, on a Gateway
  28. 386sx/20Mhz.  Fdisk it (DOS 5), format it, no trouble.  It works like
  29. a charm.

  31. I then bring it home.  NO GO!  Upon changing the drive type in the
  32. SETUP routine, I get "+++ DRIVE NOT READY +++" or some such.  Even
  33. booting with a floppy (DOS 5) and running FDISK, I'm getting "error
  34. reading fdisk."

  36. The cabling is right.  The pigtail for the power is hooked in. 
  37. All seems normal except the marriage between the two.

  39. What am I overlooking??  There is only ONE jumper block (with three
  40. positions) on the drive.  The system won't recognize the new drive no
  41. matter WHAT position it is in (especially the jumper position it
  42. worked in on the Gateway!).

  44. Can someone help save this drive and computer from a rapid flight out
  45. of my study window?!  ;)
