- I'm hoping for some help in diagnosing the following problem, which
- occurs on a Sun 4/630 running SunOS 4.1.2.
-
- Often, running jobs will hang in a non-interruptible wait; i.e., the
- first character in the 'STAT' column of ps will contain 'D'.
- According to the man page for ps, this means that the process is
- "typically in a short-term wait for disk or NFS I/O". However, at the
- time the job enters this state, it's not doing a disk read, and the
- wait is anything but "short-term" -- these processes subsist until the
- machine is rebooted.
-
- The only distinguishing feature of these processes is that they are
- larger than average, being 100-150+ MB in size.
-
- Any advice on how to track down the cause will be appreciated.
-
- Thanks,
- Paul
