- We have some problems with the performance at our system, and we
- monitor different states in our machines and networks.
-
- In order to find any memory shortage problems we run vmstat -S 10
- (SunOs 4.1). The "fre" field indicate no memory problem. But the "de"
- field, "anticipated short term memory shortfall" is nonzero. In the
- nutshell book, System Performance Tuning, this indicates memory shortage.
- As You can see, there is no "po" or "so" activity and "fre" is gt.24000 !!.
-
- The machine (typical example), sparc 2 with 64M ram, is a x-terminal
- server and in addition nfs server for some filesystems.
-
- I am rather confused, can somebody help me ?
- - is the nonzero "de" field an indication of something wrong ? .. or
- - can i forget the whole "de" field information and concentrate on
- "so" and "po" ?
