- In brief, I logged onto my system as the "root" user. Then,
- I used "cd" to get to my normal user account, say, "falcon".
-
- An "ls -l" on a typical file in "falcon" gives
-
- drwxrwxrwx 2 falcon user 512 Mar 30 13:22 News
-
- I copied a tlinked a directory called "example", as the "root" user, to
- the partition on my disk for "falcon". After doing a "cd" down
- to "falcon", I did a "ls -l" on the tlinked directory, "example".
-
- I get
-
- drwxrwxrwx 2 nobody user 512 Mar 31 13:22 example
-
- I want to change "nobody" to "falcon" so that I can effectively
- access "example" without getting a lot of permission violations.
-
- Someone told me to use "chown", so I typed
-
- chown falcon example
-
- But I get this crap:
-
- chown: usr: No permission match
-
- What the hell does that mean? What am I doing wrong? I am executing the
- "chown" command as the "root" user. Shouldn't I _have_ permission?
-
- Please e-mail your response to me. I will post a summary.
-
- (I swear. Just one more of these UNIX #@%$#%......)
