  26.             A User Friendly Interface to TeX
  27.                 For the NeXT Computer

  30.        Some time ago, the only user friendly interface to TeX existed for
  31.     Macintosh and Amiga computers, but now we are pleased to present
  32.     InstantTeX, a user friendly interface to TeX for the NeXT computers.
  33.     
  34.        The standard way to use TeX on NeXT is to write the text in Edit and
  35.     to use Terminal to TeX it. Each time you want to TeX the file, you
  36.     have to type a unix command in Terminal. To locate the line with an
  37.     error, you have to open the line panel in Edit and type the line
  38.     number there. This is rather inconvenient.
  39.     
  40.        With InstantTeX you can TeX your file in any format you wish,
  41.     directly from Edit, just by pressing a key. The format of your TeX
  42.     files can be determined automatically.
  43.     
  44.        If TeX notices an error in your file, you can press a key and
  45.     InstantTeX will go to the line which contains the error. This
  46.     considerably simplifies editing your text.
  47.     
  48.        The main advantage of InstantTeX is that it instantly previews your
  49.     files as you are writing them. A few seconds after you type a key,
  50.     the new output appears in TeXview. This is very useful for writing
  51.     equations, macros, adjusting the spaces and sizes in your file, and
  52.     almost everything else that you can do with TeX. In this respect
  53.     InstantTeX is very similar to Lightning Textures for Macintosh
  54.     computer. Our program works well even on multiple-page documents, due
  55.     to the speed of the NeXT computers.

  57.        InstantTeX has a convenient panel containing buttons `Edit File',
  58.     `Go On', `Ignore All Errors', `Help With Error', `Quit TeX', `Use
  59.     Another File', `TeX Again', `Preview'.

  61.        You may send TeX files to people who do not have NeXTs. The files
  62.     you are going to send will be automatically truncated to 80 or 70
  63.     characters a line, and will not contain errors that Mail makes when
  64.     it truncates TeX files.

  66.        If TeX cannot find a file, you can open a standard NeXT open panel
  67.     and select the right file.
  68.     
  69.        There is an online reference card which helps you write Greek
  70.     letters, operators, relations, and other TeX symbols.

  72.        There are more than 20 various options to suit your preferences.

  74.        InstantTeX version 1.0 is expected to ship in late July, 1992, and
  75.     will work with NeXT computers running NeXTSTEP 2.0. Users who
  76.     purchase InstantTeX for NeXTSTEP 2.0 will be entitled to a free
  77.     upgrade to InstantTeX, which will work with NeXTSTEP 3.0. The new
  78.     version of InstantTeX will take full advantage of new features in
  79.     NeXTSTEP 3.0, including TeXview 3.0.
