  45.     We had heard that there was no real improvement in v3.0 for Fax, and that
  46. is part of the reason that we decided to produce DFax.  While the initial re-
  47. lease only supports the SupraFax v.32bis/v.42bis FaxModem, it DOES support
  48. adaptive answer, with pass-off to login for data calls according to a standard
  49. /etc/ttys entry, and direct non-login fax receive (which as you can easily im-
  50. agine is necessary for incoming faxes).

  52.     We have not seen 3.0PRE2, or any other 3.0 version, as of yet, but look for-
  53. ward to seeing just what in the phonekit we may find with which to integrate.
  54. As DFax stands now, on the verge of shipment, it answers adaptively, so long as
  55. the modem is able to answer adaptively, and in data-fax-data-fax toggle for
  56. those which are broken (if so configured), and should allow ANYTHING to log-
  57. in which performs a normal Unix login, such as uucico (mail & UUcopy), though
  58. the toggled answers are inconvenient and inefficient in this regard.  Thankfully
  59. Supra has guaranteed us that the broken adaptive answer will be fixed with the
  60. pending ROM release.

  62.    I *can* speak for 2.1.  Under 2.1, with the fax software supplied with the
  63. NeXT, it cannot even switch between fax and data calls without a reboot accord-
  64. ing to technical descriptions.  It also (reportedly) is incapable of in-line
  65. retrains, merely giving up when bad binary data is received.
