  11. I havve been asked by a friend of mine to help put together a (possibly)
  12. spreadsheet/acctg application for some offices of a volunteer group that he
  13. works with.

  15. What it amounts to is that the original info could be input into a
  16. spreadsheet model easily enough; BUT he wants to hang onto that a screen
  17. display that 'looks like' a check, into which they would enter the
  18. necessary info to represent paying a check.

  20. Now, I know how much effort it would take to write this thing from scratch;
  21. so as an alternate, what I'm trying to do is to come up with a couple
  22. pieces of software that when working together, would give him what he
  23. wanted.

  25. At first I thought that it would be easy enough to get a product called
  26. 'Dave' to make the checkbook analogy and to handle the GUI, but I can't 
  27. seem to find it anywhere.

  29. I have decided that once the spreadsheet portion was written, we'll compile
  30. it with Baler, to lock the formulas, etc, and it'll only do what it needs
  31. to do at the multiple user sites in order to produce the necessary output,
  32. that'll then be forwarded back to my friend @headquarters. That way they
  33. won't have to have, or even run a full-blown spreadsheet program.  BUT, that
  34. doesn't give me the checkbook entry form analogy.

  36. The individual field offices really don't need a full-blown, or even
  37. mini-accounting package for this, and that's why I landed on the
  38. spreadsheet function in the first place.

  40. Also, I need to be able to 'get at' the data occasionally with either a
  41. database, or spreadsheet program, so going with something other than an
  42. accounting pkg, assures that the data will be in one of those two formats,
  43. instead of an accounting pkg's native (proprietary) format.

  45. Does anyone know of a pkg, or pkgs, either commercial or shareware that'll
  46. give us the functionality described?
