- I have been making the master disks for Beta and Final Releases for a couple
- of years now for Cayman Systems, but lately, due to the fact that we have
- many versions of software and products, this task has become quite time
- consuming and I was wondering if anybody else had any other ideas on how
- to do this.
-
- Currently, after making the first set of masters, I use a disk duplicator
- by Mountain Computer which does a bit-by-bit copy. I need 5 copies of each
- master (for offsite backup, disk duplication house, support team, and
- QA backups). Then, using a checksum program, I validate the copies against
- the original.
-
- This used to work great. But now, I have been running into a lot of problems
- with the copied disks and I have to maunually put each copy (after locking it)
- into my mac and making sure that there are no copy errors, installer scripts
- work, etc. Over the last 3 months, I have had 3 bad copies, each adding 30
- minutes or so to the final task.
-
- The checksum program is from Mountain Computer also and seems to be far
- superior then anything else that I've tried.
-
- The above scenerio might not seem to take too long, but when you have to
- douple and triple check 75 to 80 disks manually, knowing that one mistake could
- cause a lot of grief down the road for everyone, it really takes a lot of you.
-
- How do other developers make their master disks? Is there some other check-
- sum program that I could have more confidence in?
-
- Any suggestions would be appreciated.
-
- thanks
