  13. I have been making the master disks for Beta and Final Releases for a couple
  14. of years now for Cayman Systems, but lately, due to the fact that we have 
  15. many versions of software and products, this task has become quite time 
  16. consuming and I was wondering if anybody else had any other ideas on how
  17. to do this.

  19. Currently, after making the first set of masters, I use a disk duplicator
  20. by Mountain Computer which does a bit-by-bit copy.  I need 5 copies of each
  21. master (for offsite backup, disk duplication house, support team, and 
  22. QA backups).  Then, using a checksum program, I validate the copies against
  23. the original.

  25. This used to work great.  But now, I have been running into a lot of problems
  26. with the copied disks and I have to maunually put each copy (after locking it)
  27. into my mac and making sure that there are no copy errors, installer scripts
  28. work, etc.  Over the last 3 months, I have had 3 bad copies, each adding 30
  29. minutes or so to the final task.

  31. The checksum program is from Mountain Computer also and seems to be far 
  32. superior then anything else that I've tried.

  34. The above scenerio might not seem to take too long, but when you have to 
  35. douple and triple check 75 to 80 disks manually, knowing that one mistake could
  36. cause a lot of grief down the road for everyone, it really takes a lot of you.

  38. How do other developers make their master disks?  Is there some other check-
  39. sum program that I could have more confidence in?
